Este trabalho é um estudo sobre as imagens da televisão argentina na cobertura dos Jogos Olímpicos de Sydney 2000. O corpus é a transmissão pelo canal argentino T&C Sports da cerimônia final dos Jogos Olímpicos. Este trabalho buscou, através da análise qualitativa da informação televisiva na cerimônia de encerramento dos Jogos Olímpicos de Sydney 2000, buscar analisar a construção do evento global e as referências globais e locais. Descrevemos as etapas da cerimônia de encerramento das Olimpíadas de Sydney 2000, destacando a cobertura televisiva dos rituais olímpicos, discursos institucionais, comemorações, representações, os ícones da Austrália e o show e festa.

El corpus es la transmisión de T&C Sports de la ceremonia final de los Juegos Olímpicos. Este trabajo buscó, a través del análisis cualitativo de la información televisiva en la ceremonia de clausura de los Juegos Olímpicos de Sídney 2000, analizar la construcción del evento global y las referencias globales y locales.Describimos las etapas de la ceremonia de clausura de los Juegos Olímpicos de Sídney 2000, destacando la cobertura televisiva de rituales olímpicos, discursos institucionales, celebraciones, actuaciones, íconos australianos y el espectáculo y la fiesta. This work is a study on the images of Argentine television in the coverage of the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000. The corpus is the transmission of T&C Sports of the final ceremony of the Olympic Games. ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Este trabajo desarrolla una lectura del Campeonato Mundialde Fútbol 1978. Universo do futebol deRoberto DaMatta oficia como su guía para desandar um conjunto de problemas. Método:A partir de una relectura de testimonios conservados en distintos formatos (prensa periódica, documentos oficiales, registros audiovisuales e imágenes) se reconstruye la organización y los rituales que delimitaron al Campeonato Mundialde Fútbol Mundial 1978. Resultados y discussión:El artículo muestra cómo la preparación del gobierno militar trató de borrar la herencia popular del Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol 1978 puesta en juego por los gobiernos peronistas y cómo desplegó a través de la ceremonia inaugural su imaginación política y su proyecto de gobierno para la sociedad Argentina. Conclusión:Al abordar los festejos de la victoria argentina en la final, analizamos los desajustes evidenciados por ese proyecto a partir de unas celebraciones capaces de suspender, al menos momentáneamente, el sentido y las jerarquías imaginadas por las autoridades militares. La propuesta de Roberto DaMatta acerca de la relación entre deporte y sociedad y su enfoque sobre los rituales y las liminaridades continúa siendo una poderosa inspiración para leer un evento extraordinario como el Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol Argentina 78.


Objetivo: Este trabalho desenvolve uma leitura do Campeonato do Mundo de 78. O Universo do futebol de Roberto DaMatta serve como um guia para retraçar um conjunto de problemas. Método:A partir de uma releitura de testemunhos preservados em diferentes formatos (imprensa periódica, documentos oficiais, registos audiovisuais e imagens) reconstrói a organização e os rituais que delimitaram o Campeonato do Mundo de 78. Resultados e discussão:O artigo mostra como a preparação do governo militar tentou apagar a herança popular da Taça do Mundo posta em jogo pelos governos peronistas e como empregou a sua imaginação política e o seu projeto de governo para a sociedade argentina através da cerimónia de abertura. Conclusão:Ao tratarmos das celebrações da vitória da Argentina na final, analisamos os desajustes revelados por este projeto através de celebrações capazes de suspender, pelo menos momentaneamente, o significado e as hierarquias imaginadaspelas autoridades militares. A abordagem de Roberto DaMatta à relação entre desporto e sociedade e o seu foco em rituais e liminaridades continua a ser uma poderosa inspiração para a leitura de um evento extraordinário como o Campeonato do Mundo Argentina 78.


Objective: This work develops a reading of the 78 World Cup. Universo do futebolby Roberto DaMatta is guide to retrace a set of problems. Method:From a re-reading of testimonies preserved in different formats (periodical press, official documents, audiovisual records and images), the organization and rituals that delimited the 78 World Cup are reconstructed. Results and discussion:The article shows how the preparation of the military government tried to erase the popular heritage of the World Cup put into play by the Peronist governments and how it deployed through the opening ceremony its political imagination and its government project for the Argentine society. Conclusion:By approaching the celebrations of the Argentinean victory in the final, we analyze the mismatches evidenced by that project from celebrations capable of suspending, at least momentarily, the meaning and hierarchies imagined bythe military authorities. Roberto DaMatta's proposal about the relationship between sport and society and his focus on rituals and liminarities continues to be a powerful inspiration to read an extraordinary event such as the World Cup Argentina 78.

ABSTRACT

Este texto destaca as Passagens, diz respeito à formação dos analistas, mas também procura uma amplitude e maior alcance para discutir os contextos. O texto lembra que comemoraremos em 2022 os 100 da Semana de Arte Moderna, movimento motivado pelo questionamento das convenções instituídas nas artes e na cultura. Junto com os modernistas da Semana de 22, chega ao Brasil a psicanálise, que, ao longo desses anos, viveu e vive transformações, entendidas como a própria matéria da qual a psique se nutre. Assim, propõe a ideia de passagens como experiência de regiões de limiar e trânsito, o que constantemente ocorre na vida mental, em momentos de transformação nas várias fases da vida, em detalhes sutis do cotidiano, como os instantes de passagem do sonho para a vigília. Também aponta para as instituições psicanalíticas, as passagens, a maneira pela qual elas ocorrem, e a possível cristalização em certos lugares. Procura-se chamar a atenção a atenção para riscos de burocratizar as passagens em contraposição destaca-se o aspecto questionador e criativo das passagens, trilhas que os modernistas e nossos pioneiros nos sinalizaram.


This text highlights the Passages, refers to the training of analysts, but also seeks a breadth and greater scope to discuss the contexts. In 2022 we will celebrate the centenary of the Modern Art Week, a movement motivated by the questioning of the conventions established in art and culture. Together with the modernists of the Week of 22, psychoanalysis arrives in Brazil, which throughout these years has suffer many transformations, understood as the very matter from which the psyche is nourished. It proposes the idea of passages as an experience of thresholds and regions of transit, which occurs constantly in mental life, in moments of transformation in the different phases of life, in subtle details of daily life, such as moments of the passage from sleep to wakefulness. It also points to the psychoanalytic institutions, the passages, the way they occur, and the possible crystallization in certain places. We call for attention to the risks of bureaucratizing the passages in contrast, the questioning and creative aspect of the passages stands out, paths that the modernists and our pioneers pointed out to us.


Este texto destaca los Pasajes, se refiere a la formación de analistas, pero también busca una amplitud y un mayor alcance para discutir los contextos. El texto recuerda que en 2022 celebraremos el centenario de la Semana de Arte Moderna, un movimiento motivado por el cuestionamiento de las convenciones instituidas en el arte y la cultura. Junto a los modernistas de la Semana del 22, llega a Brasil el psicoanálisis, que a lo largo de estos años ha vivido y vive transformaciones, entendidas como la materia misma de la que se nutre la psique. Así, propone la idea de los pasajes como una experiencia de umbrales y regiones de tránsito, que se ocurre constantemente en la vida mental, en momentos de transformación en las distintas fases de la vida, en detalles sutiles de la vida cotidiana, como los momentos del pasaje del sueño a la vigilia. También apunta a las instituciones psicoanalíticas, los pasajes, la forma en que ocurren y la posible cristalización en determinados lugares. Llamamos la atención sobre los riesgos de burocratizar los pasajes en contraste, se destaca el aspecto cuestionador y creativo de los pasajes, senderos que nos señalaron los modernistas y nuestros pioneros.


Ce texte met en lumière les Passages, fait référence à la formation des analystes, mais cherche aussi une largeur et une plus grande portée pour discuter les contextes. En 2022 nous fêterons le centenaire de la Semaine de l'Art Moderne, mouvement motivé par la remise en cause des conventions établies dans l'art et la culture. Avec les modernistes de la Semaine des 22, la psychanalyse arrive au Brésil, qui tout au long de ces années a vécu et vit des transformations, comprises comme la matière même dont se nourrit la psyché. Ainsi, il propose l'idée des passages comme une expérience de seuils et de régions de transit, qui se produit constamment dans la vie mentale, dans des moments de transformation dans les différentes phases de la vie, dans des détails subtils de la vie quotidienne, tels que des moments du passage du sommeil à la veille. Il met également en évidence les institutions psychanalytiques, les passages, la manière dont ils se produisent et une possible cristallisation dans des lieux particuliers. Nous attirons l'attention sur les risques de bureaucratisation des passages en revanche, l'aspect questionnant et créatif des passages ressort, chemins que nous ont signalés les modernistes et nos pionniers.

ABSTRACT

A través del caso clínico de un adolescente de trece años la autora reflexiona acerca del impacto del lockdown sobre el psiquismo del paciente. Considera los cambios que el confinamiento ha generado y la pérdida imprevista de los ritos cotidianos que acompañan la vida individual, familiar y social. Se afrontan algunas de las consecuencias y los fenónemos que genera el incremento de la vida on line, que las neurociencias señalan, entre otros, como fenómeno de dislocación. La autora asocia las dificultades del paciente para dar continuidad a las sesionas on line a algunas características de su funcionamiento a nivel sensorial. Se trata de un paciente con rasgos autistas que presenta dificultades en la coordinación sensorial. Conceptos como el desmantelamiento (Meltzer) o formas sensoriales autistas (Tustin) esclarecen ciertos aspectos del funcionamiento sensorial y de la organización psíquica de los pacientes graves. Haber leído algunas producciones inconscientes del paciente como un desplazamiento de la transferencia permitió afrontar el momento crítico determinado por el lockdown y el inicio de la adolescencia(AU)


À travers le cas clinique d'un adolescent de 13 ans, l'auteur réfléchit à l'impact du confinement sur le psychisme du patient. Elle considère les changements que le verrouillage a générés et la perte improvisée des rites quotidiens qui accompagnent la vie individuelle, familiale et sociale. Les conséquences et les phénomènes générés par l'augmentation de la vie en ligne sont pris en considération. Les neurosciences mettent en évidence, entre autres, le phénomène de dislocation. L'auteur associe les difficultés du patient à donner une continuité aux sessions en ligne à certaines caractéristiques de son fonctionnement au niveau sensoriel. Il s'agit d'un patient présentant des caractéristiques autistiques et des difficultés de coordination sensorielle. Des concepts tels que le démantélement de Meltzer ou les formes sensorielles autistiques de Tustin éclairent certains aspects du fonctionnement sensoriel et de l'organisation psychologique des patients gravement malades. Le fait d'avoir lu certaines productions inconscientes du patient comme un déplacement de transfert a permis de faire face au moment critique déterminé par le verrouillage et le début de l'adolescence(AU)


Through the clínical case of a 13-year-old adolescent, the author reflects on the impact of lockdown on the patient's psychism. She considers the changes that lockdown has generated and the improvised loss of the daily rites that accompany individual, family and social life. Considering the consequences and the phenomena generated by the increase of life on line, neurosciences point out, among others, the phenomenon of dislocation. The author associates the patient's difficulties in giving continuity to the on-line sessions to some characteristics of his functioning on a sensorial level. This is a patient with autistic features who presents difficulties in sensory coordination. Concepts such as Meltzer or Tustin (dismantling, autistic sensory forms) clarify certain aspects of the sensory functioning and psychic organization of severe patients. Having read some unconscious productions of the patient as a transference displacement allowed to face the critical moment determined by the lockdown and the beginning of adolescence(AU)


Através do caso clínico de um adolescente de 13 anos de idade, o autor reflete sobre o impacto do bloqueio no psiquismo do paciente. Ela considera as mudanças que o bloqueio gerou e a perda improvisada dos ritos diários que acompanham a vida individual, familiar e social. As consequências e fenômenos gerados pelo aumento da vida on line são levados em consideração. As neurociências apontam, entre outros, o fenômeno do deslocamento. O autor associa as dificuldades do paciente para dar continuidade às sessões on-line a algumas características de seu funcionamento em nível sensorial. Este é um paciente com características autistas que apresenta dificuldades na coordenação sensorial. Conceitos como a desmontagem de Meltzer ou as formas sensoriais autistas de Tustin lançam luz sobre certos aspectos do funcionamento sensorial e da organização psicológica de pacientes gravemente doentes. Tendo lido algumas produções inconscientes do paciente como um deslocamento de transferência permitiu enfrentar o momento crítico determinado pelo bloqueio e o início da adolescência(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introducción. Los estudiantes del último año de la escuela secundaria suelen realizar una celebración la noche previa al último primer día de clases (UPD).Objetivos. Describir las características del UPD en una población de adolescentes que concurrieron a un hospital universitario de comunidad.Población y métodos. Estudio de corte transversal. Fueron incluidos adolescentes que consultaron en 2018 y participaron del UPD. Se utilizó una encuesta semiestructurada y se solicitó describir narrativamente el UPD.Resultados. Se analizaron 102 encuestas. Los UPD se realizaron en un lugar privado en el 46,1 %; hubo un adulto acompañante en el 58 %; consumió alcohol el 78,4 %; ocurrieron lesiones no intencionales en el 9,8 %; tuvo problemas con adultos el 44,1 %, y volvería a realizarlo el 88 %.Conclusiones. La mayoría consumió alcohol y cerca de la mitad tuvo problemas con adultos. La mayoría de los estudiantes estuvieron conformes y volverían a realizarlo.


Introduction. The students of the last year of high school usually hold a celebration the night before the last first day of school (LFD).Objectives. To describe the LFD characteristics in a population of adolescents who attend a community university hospital.Population and methods. Cross-sectional study. Teenagers who consulted in 2018 and participated in the LFD were included. A semi-structured survey was used and it was requested to narratively describe the LFD.Results. 102 surveys were analyzed; 46.1 % of the LFD were performed in a private place, there was an adult company in 58 %, the alcohol consumption was 78.4 %, unintentional injuries occurred in 9.8 %, 44.1 % had problems with adults and 88 % would do it again.Conclusions. The majority consumed alcohol and about half had problems with adults. Most of the students were satisfied and would do it again.

ABSTRACT

Resumen: La Ciencia Cognitiva de la Religión es un campo de investigación interdisciplinario que surge en los años 1990s, congregando distintas disciplinas y métodos. Su interés es explicar los procesos cognitivos que subyacen a las creencias y prácticas religiosas, así como situar las mismas en la historia natural y evolutiva de nuestra especie. En el presente artículo se describirá dicho campo interdisciplinario en sus aspectos principales, así como en dos de sus líneas centrales de investigación: la epidemiología de las creencias religiosas, y el estudio cognitivo de los rituales religiosos. Ambas líneas de investigación estudian el problema de cómo las ideas y prácticas religiosas interactúan con la memoria y otros procesos cognitivos, tratando de explicar laamplia dispersión de los fenómenos religiosos en el mundo.


Abstract: The Cognitive Science of Religion is an interdisciplinary research field born in the 1990s. It combines different disciplines and methods, united by the common interest of explaining the cognitive processes underlying religious beliefs and practices, and situating them in the natural evolutionary history of the human species. In the current article, the essential features of this interdisciplinary field will be described, including a presentation of two of its most important research foci: the epidemiology of religious beliefs, and the cognitive study of religious rituals. Both lines of research are concerned with how religious ideas and practices interact with memory and other cognitive processes, trying to explain the widespread occurrence of religious phenomena around the world.


Resumo: A Ciência Cognitiva da Religião é um campo de pesquisa interdisciplinar que surgiu na década de 1990, e reúne diferentes disciplinas e métodos. Seu interesse é explicar os processos cognitivos que fundamentam a crenças e práticas religiosas e colocá-los na história natural e evolutiva de nossa espécie. Este artigo descreve esse campo interdisciplinar e seus principais aspectos. Nós descrevemos duas das suas principais linhas de pesquisa: a epidemiologia das crenças religiosas, e o estudo cognitivo de os rituais religiosos. As duas linhas de investigação estudam o problema de como as idéias e práticas religiosas afetar a memória e outros processos cognitivos, tentando explicar a grande dispersão dos fenómenos religiosos no mundo.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Immigrants and refugees are constantly depicted in dehumanizing ways or as a function of economic gains for the hosting nation. These descriptions, added to the current socio-political European situation, could be dangerous due to infrahumanization levels among minorities who are target of prejudice. In this study, we attempted to reduce infrahumanization levels towards Maghrebian people through a ritualistic collective activity, manipulating the information participants had to use. Results indicate that participation was different among conditions and infrahumanization levels were reduced. Also, participants who used utilitarian information could humanize when an economic gain was perceived, while also increasing prejudice levels. The results are discussed in terms of collective rituals and the dualistic effect of utilitarian information.


Resumen A menudo los inmigrantes y refugiados son representados a través de formas deshumanizantes o como una ganancia económica para los países receptores. Este hecho, sumado a la situación sociopolítica europea actual, puede aumentar los niveles de infrahumanización que sufren las minorías objeto de prejuicio. En este estudio, se propuso reducir la infrahumanización hacia la población magrebí a través de una actividad ritualizada, manipulando la información que los participantes utilizaban. Los resultados indicaron que la participación fue diferente según las condiciones y que se redujo la infrahumanización. Además, los participantes que utilizaron información utilitarista humanizaban cuando percibían una ganancia económica, mientras que también aumentaban sus niveles de prejuicio. Los resultados se discuten en términos de rituales colectivos y efectos duales de la información utilitarista.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The objective of the present study was to evaluate the predictors of attitudes toward transitional justice process (1991, National Truth and Reconciliation Commission). No studies that report on the variables that could predict a positive evaluation of TRC in the Chilean context are currently available. A logistic regression analysis based on original survey data from Chile (N = 1267) was carried out to evaluate the work of truth commissions as the dependent variable (in terms of "approval" and "disapproval"). Results reveal that predictors of favorable attitudes towards truth and reconciliation commissions (TRC) include emotions such as sadness and hope, TRC contribution to truth and to the construction of an inclusive history (and to a lesser extent to justice), high social sharing, perception of a positive social climate, high institutional trust, and positive perception of official apologies. People supporting TRC also agree with complementary reparation, suggesting that a positive attitude towards TRC and less prone to denial of the traumatic past.


Resumen El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar un conjunto de variables predictoras del apoyo de los procesos de justicia transicional (Comisión Nacional de Verdad y Reconciliación, CNVR, 1991). Actualmente no disponemos de estudios que reporten las variables que predicen una valoración positiva de las dichas comisiones en Chile. Un análisis de regresión logística fue realizado con datos de una muestra de población general (N=1267) para evaluar el trabajo realizado por la Comisión (en términos de aprobación o rechazo). Los resultados indican que las emociones de tristeza y esperanza son buenas predictoras de actitudes favorables hacia el trabajo de la CNVR, así como el logro de los objetivos referidos a verdad, justicia y construcción de una historia integradora. Del mismo modo, altos niveles de compartición social de las experiencias, percepción del clima social como positivo, confianza institucional y una percepción positiva de las disculpas institucionales resultan buenos predictores de una positiva evaluación del trabajo de la CNVR. Las personas que a que valoran positivamente el trabajo de la comisión están más de acuerdo a su vez con las medidas de reparación y menos dispuestas a negar el pasado traumático.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é compreender as experiências (pessoais, religiosas, sociais e culturais) e as transformações desenvolvimentais das benzedeiras ao longo de suas trajetórias de vida, bem como sua relação com a promoção da saúde em suas comunidades. Foram entrevistadas 10 benzedeiras residentes em cidades do interior dos estados de São Paulo e Minas Gerais, com média de 62,5 anos de idade e de 26,2 anos de ofício. O referencial teórico empregado foi o da Rede de Significações, associado às contribuições etnopsicológicas. A maioria relatou a transmissão do ofício a partir de um familiar, destacando a prática da benzeção como algo que pode ser ensinado, aprendido e transmitido por meio da tradição oral. Mesmo assim, o ofício também é compreendido como um dom inato que atravessa o desenvolvimento, o que requer dedicação, paciência e abnegação. Abstract The objective of this study is to understand the experiences (personal, religious, social and cultural) and the developmental transformations of the folk healers throughout their life trajectories, as well as their relation with the promotion of health in their communities. Ten folk healers were interviewed in cities in the interior of the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, with a mean age of 62.5 years and a mean of 26.2 years in office. The theoretical reference used was that of the Network of Meanings, associated to ethnopsychological contributions. Most reported transmission of the craft from a family member, highlighting the practice of folk healing as something that can be taught, learned and transmitted through oral tradition. Still, the craft is understood as a gift that runs through the development, which requires dedication, patience and self-denial. The difficulty of transmitting the job to the younger ones may be related to greater urbanization, greater access to formal health equipment, as well as revealing the submission of the blessing to a biomedical logic, within a health system that sometimes neglects popular systems of care....(AU)


Resumen El objetivo del artículo es comprender las experiencias (personales, religiosas, sociales y culturales) y las transformaciones de desarrollo de las curanderas en el transcurso de sus trayectorias de vida, así como su relación con la promoción de la salud en sus comunidades. Se entrevistó a 10 curanderas, con una media de 62,5 años de edad y 26,2 años en el oficio, residentes en ciudades del interior de los Estados de São Paulo y Minas Gerais. El marco teórico utilizado fue la Red de Significados, asociado con contribuciones etnopsicológicas. La mayoría informó la transmisión del oficio de un miembro de la familia, destacando la práctica de curandería como algo que se puede enseñar, aprender y transmitir a través de la tradición oral. Aun así, el oficio se entiende como un regalo que atraviesa el desarrollo, que requiere dedicación, paciencia y abnegación. La dificultad de la transmisión del oficio a la gente más joven puede estar relacionada con el aumento de la urbanización, un mayor acceso a los servicios de salud formales, así como revelar la sumisión a una lógica biomédica dentro de un sistema de salud que a veces deja de lado los sistemas populares del cuidado....(AU)

ABSTRACT

A performance of sacrifi cial rituals is harmonious to all living beings of the cosmos. Th ere is a negative impact on man, society and atmosphere due to the ecological imbalance; global warming is creating a more heat and pressure on the earth. Somayaga is performed for rain formation and to balance the six seasons. Th e ingredient and rituals of the yaga appear to be a promising, scientifi c, cost-eff ective, eco-friendly method to counter the ever-increasing deadly pollution of the environment, and purify and enrich the environment. A review of various sections of Vedic literature was performed with regard to Somayaga. Th e scientifi c interpretation and researches on the sacrifi cial rituals can build a more faith and deeper understanding of such customs. Th e rituals of yaga have been observed in infl uencing the collective consciousness fi elds of the people participating in the yaga as measured by REG. Hence, for the survival of the Vedic culture, welfare of the creation and mankind Somayaga must be performed. Th e present paper is aimed to briefl y compile and bring out the studies, information, and researches on Soma as a plant, drink and its use in the rituals of Somayaga.

ABSTRACT

Background: Faulty or lack of intranatal care can lead to a number of morbidities in the neonatal period. Newborn care in any community is influenced by cultural practices prevalent in that area apart from medical and economic causes. In India, morbidity and mortality of mother and child directly or indirectly is governed by the customs prevalent in their society. Infant feeding and rearing practices vary across communities, depending on social customs. This study was planned to give us an insight about the neonatal rearing and feeding practices among mothers and the factors influencing their practices in Punjab. Methods: This facility based one point cross sectional descriptive study was done in Pediatrics wards and postnatal wards of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. The newborn rearing practices were interviewed from the families accompanying the babies with age less than four weeks using structured questionnaire. Results: 965 babies were enrolled for the study. The mean age of the mother was 28.3 ± 3.5 years and 51% of the mothers practiced exclusive breastfeeding. High proportion of neonates (70%) was given prelacteals feeding, honey being most common. Oil massage to the baby was practiced by 99% of the mothers. Bath after 24 hours of delivery was given to 74% newborns. 89% of the babies were vaccinated after birth. Conclusions: People like to follow their rituals and customs eliminating potentially harmful practices should be tried keeping those in mind. The strengthening of the information, education and the communication to improve the existing neonatal rearing practices is the need of the day.

A morte, por mais estudada que seja, continua sendo um mistério. Lidar com ela não é algo nada fácil e por essa razão ela assusta tanto. Todos os medos do ser humano estão, no fundo, relacionados com o da morte. Tudo isso por ela ser um mistério do qual pouco ou nada sabemos, embora seja natural. À vista disso, as religiões dão a este tema o seu principal enfoque. Assim sendo, procuro neste artigo tratar o tabu da morte, refletindo temas relacionados a ele. Temas que estão presentes na vida das pessoas, sobretudo quando passam pela experiência da perda de alguém do seu círculo familiar ou de amizade. Dentre eles, abordo a Unção dos Enfermos, as Exéquias, a Missa do Sétimo Dia e a tradição de rezar pelos mortos. Temas que ajudam a lidar com o tabu da morte ou a perda de um ente querido.


The more death is studied, the more it remains a mystery. Dealing with death is no easy matter and for that reason it is so frightening. All the fears of human beings are fundamentally related to the fear of death. This is because it is a mystery about which we know little or nothing, although it is natural to die. In view of this, religions give this topic a primary focus. Therefore, in this article an attempt is made to deal with the taboo surrounding death and reflect on issues associated with it. These themes are present in people's lives, especially when they have the experience of losing someone in their family or circle of friends. Among these subjects, the aspects of the Anointing of the Sick, the Funeral Mass, the Seventh Day Mass and the tradition of praying for the dead are all touched upon. These are all themes that help to deal with the taboo of death or losing a loved one.

Neste artigo expõem-se e analisam-se as concepções de doença e morte presentes em um renomado centro de cura espiritual, mediante procedimento etnográficos e a consideração dos seus implícitos. Subjacente ao surgimento da Legião Branca Mestre Jesus conta-se a história de uma família de índios cujos fundadores, depois de mortos, se unem no “plano espiritual” para atrair e reunir os seus membros que entretanto se haviam dispersado. Esta narrativa parece ser uma metáfora do encontro edesencontro entre colonizadores e suas vítimas africanas e indígenas. A doença é significada como um sinal de pertencimento a essa família e o fatodos “médicos” serem entendidos como mortos, propõe uma relação defamiliaridade com a morte. A concepção reencarnacionista propicia a composição de laços entre biografias diversas, interligando uma revisão da própria identidade a memórias sociais da escravidão, da subjugação coloniale do etnocídio indígena...


This article sets out and analyzes the concepts of illness and death present in a renowned center for spiritual healing, through ethnographic procedures and consideration of their implicit. Underlying the emergence of the LegiãoBranca Mestre Jesus tells the story of a family of Indians whose founders, when dead, have joined in the "spiritual plane" to attract and bring together its member, however, had dispersed to. ABSTRACT

Instalados na América portuguesa desde o final do século XVI, os monges beneditinos tinham como lema ter a morte sempre à vista. Neste artigo, são apresentados os diversos desdobramentos em torno da morte em um mosteiro no Rio de Janeiro setecentista. Com ênfase nas atuações performáticas, e fazendo uso de documentação depositada no próprio mosteiro, são analisadas as hierarquizações envolvidas, as formas de representação do tema e a sociabilidade gerada nas ocasiões de sepultamentos. Com enfoque nas relações estabelecidas, incluindo as reciprocidades inventadas e reinventadas ao longo dos rituais, demonstra-se que tais ocasiões forneciam subsídios para a distinção dos eclesiásticos em uma sociedade regida, em parte, por lógicas do Antigo Regime.


Benedictine monks, who settled in Portuguese America in the late sixteenth century, made it their tenet to always have death in mind. The article describes diverse aspects of the Benedictine approach towards death as displayed at an eighteenth-century monastery in Rio de Janeiro. Relying on documentation stored at the monastery and highlighting performance-like activities, the article analyzes hierarchical arrangements, the ways death was represented, and the forms of sociability manifested at the time of burials. Focusing on the relations that were established, including the reciprocities that were invented and re-invented throughout the rituals, it is demonstrated that these events provided a basis for the distinction earned by clerics in a society ruled in part by the logics of the Ancién Regime. .

Psychotherapy involves process that are informed by the patient's culture. Indigenous psychotherapies are found in many societies and they may be used alone or in conjunction with Western modalities of treatment. This paper proposes a psychosocial framework that lends efficacy in the treatment modalities for psychological problems. Furthermore, it hopes to provide recommendations vis-a-vis training, service, and research in the field of psychotherapy in the Philippine context.

ABSTRACT

A teoria sociológica aponta que todas as sociedades constroem formas de celebração de seus valores e identidade. Segundo autores como DaCosta (2000) e MacAloon (1984), os jogos olímpicos pautam-se em valores da modernidade ocidental, e que os celebra em grandiosas cerimônias. Inseridos no âmbito escolar, identificamos um elevado número de "jogos" e/ou "olimpíadas" que, direta ou indiretamente, baseiam-se no modelo olímpico. Neste contexto, tivemos por objetivo analisar os sentidos, significados e valores envolvidos na realização de jogos escolares, com ênfase em suas cerimônias de abertura. Além disso, buscamos compreender as razões que orientam os professores a organizarem estas competições. Para tanto, foram realizadas observações em duas cerimônias em escolas da Grande Vitória e entrevistas com os professores organizadores das competições. Verificamos que as apropriações dos valores ritualizados nos jogos olímpicos são singulares e baseadas na realidade local, porém coexistem com a emulação de um modelo que se propõe universal.


Sociological theory suggests that all societies create ways of celebrating their values and identity. According to authors such as DaCosta (2000) and MacAloon (1984), Olympic Games are guided by values of the western modernity and celebrate them through its ceremonies. In the school context, a high number of "games" and/or "Olympics" might be identified, which, directly or indirectly, are based in the Olympic model. Thus, we aimed to analyze the meanings of values involved in the realization of these school games, focusing in the opening ceremonies. Moreover, we intended to understand the reasons that guide teachers to organize such competitions. For doing so, two schools ceremonies were observed and interviews were made with teachers who organized the competitions. We found that the appropriation of the values ritualized in OG is singular, based on local realities, but coexist with the emulation of a universal model that is proposed.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This case illustrates how a patient with medically unexplained symptoms was “cured” using symbolic healing rituals of Christianity and traditional Malay black magic. Method: We report a case of a 49-year-old lady who presented with unexplainable weight loss and dysphagia despite extensive outpatient and inpatient medical investigations. She later attributed these symptoms to a “curse” by a Boyanese man with whom she had disagreements. After catharsis with a Roman Catholic priest and cleansing with a Bomoh (Malay witch doctor), the patient’s health improved. Results: We believe this patient had a conversion disorder due to recent multiple stressors in her life and she attributed her symptoms to the “curse” inflicted to her. The symbolic healing rituals by the Catholic priest and Bomoh “cured” her of her illness which concurred with the patient’s own beliefs for her illness. Conclusion: This article illustrates the importance of the physician being familiar with various local traditional beliefs, and how the interplay between various different religions and customs can come together to treat medically unexplained symptoms in a country like Singapore.

ABSTRACT

This study documents traditional knowledge of plants used as household appliances and rituals by tribal’s of Dhenkanal district, Odisha, India. It is primarily based on field surveys carried out in villages, where dwellers provided information on plant species used as household materials and rituals. The plant parts, viz. leaf, bark, stem wood and whole plant were used for above purpose. The species used as comprise 21 families for household and 11 families for rituals. The most important families were Arecaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae and Fabaceae. These plant resources were used for preparation of broom, mat, basket, measuring device of grains, insecticide to store grains etc. and rituals like marriage, worshiping different trees, Sun God, mother Earth, Goddess Banadurga, Daluani Devata and Jangal Devata.
